My husband and I found this place while going to another restaurant to eat. The matzo ball soup was excellent better yet was the Rachel grilled pastrami sandwich with everything it was the best we have ever had. We will definitely be back. The bake goods also look very yummy
I had heard great things about Dingfelders. So I decided to try it today. The place seemed to be dealing with mostly takeout/online orders as it was more or less empty. The prices are steep although the sandwiches are big enough for two meals. It was surprising to see it less busy on a Sunday afternoon as well. The staff although looked overwhelmed and not in the best mood. We got the grilled reuben and onion bagel with serrano lime schmear. The meat was juicy and the bread was toasty and delicious. The sauerkraut was a letdown though and not well seasoned. The bagel with lime schmear was great.
Dingfelder’s feels like a typical NYC deli: the aged outside of the building, but modern rustic on the inside. It’s a counter service deli, place your order at the counter, and they’ll call your name out. So far, it’s the best bagel I’ve had in Seattle (living here for 5 years so far), and it’s similar to a NY style bagel.
* Matzo Ball Soup - Absolutely delicious! We’ve had this a few other places, even Katz in NYC, and this has been the best. The Matzo ball had a ton of flavor, and the soup contained chicken and veggies, tasting like a typical veggie soup.
* Whitefish Salad w/ Lox Spread on a toasted Everything Bagel - Tasted great! There’s only one other place I’ve been that’s had a better whitefish salad (in NYC). It was cold, fresh, and flavorful (not a fan of it when it’s lukewarm).
* Lox w/ Plain Cream Cheese on a toasted Onion Bagel - Tasted great! The lox was cold, not fishy nor slimy, and had just the right amount. The bagel didn’t have much of an onion taste, but the consistency with fluffy and a little crunchy; it was on point.
Overall, the whole place smelled amazing, especially the Pastrami sandwich when they were bringing it to other tables. The bagels and food we had was delicious, best we’ve had in Seattle, and better than some in NYC. I recommend trying it out, I definitely will be back!
Wow! A real delicatessen on Capitol Hill in Seattle! Authentic Jewish deli with meats by the pound, baked goods, desserts, sandwiches, bagels, catering, dine-in and takeout. Excellent quality, reminds of when I was a kid. So happy I've discovered this spot (late) finally! :)
Better than Katz Deli in NYC. Come with an appointment. Leave with the meat sweats.
I've been coming here once a year since 2019 for lunch during PAX. Everything has been superb. The corned beef. The pastrami. Both types of housemade pickles.
The rye bread. Nothing here leaves me or anyone I've dragged along disappointed.
Start with the corned beef, or combo with the pastrami, and expand from there. Don't forget a potato latke. Grab a bagel for tomorrow morning.
My friend had sent me some of their Matza ball soup a few months back when I was under the weather and I loved it. As I am fighting my cold, I decided to test it out. I ordered the pastrami sandwich Seattle style. Not knowing it came with a side of pickles and coleslaw, I ordered a side of pickles and a single latke.
The rye bread was fresh and overflowing with pastrami meat. I loved how crispy the latke was and could have even gone for another! I do with the matza ball soup was a bit bigger but I will go for a larger size next time. The soup, latke, and half a sandwich were more than filling. The drastic size differences can make it a little tricky to navigate a single size serving, but I imagine great for ordering in large groups. Also, their hours are a little limiting.
I ordered on door dash and it was ready within minutes!
I finally found a good Jewish deli in the Seattle area: Dingfelder’s on East Pine, Capitol Hill. The matzah ball soup was the best I’ve had, as was the chopped liver on rye sandwich.
I also appreciated that the proprietor was welcoming and eager to make a new customer feel at home.
I can’t recommend this place enough! As a former east coaster, I’ve struggled to find a Deli in the PNW that comes to close to the food back home. I can say without a doubt that Dingfelder’s is parallel if not better than anything you can find on the east coast or anywhere else for that matter.
The Pastrami was cooked to perfection and the Matzoh ball soup was like a hug for my soul. 10/10 definitely check this place out!
